2018 - 2019 - Twelve days in Crete

Twelve days goes by very quickly when there is so much visual interest.

The main interest was the house I was staying in and the way it was rooted in the landscape. The building had been completed quite recently and the owners were very interesting regarding the building process.

The foundations needed to be much deeper and stronger than buildings in the UK because of the possibility of earthquakes. Much of the excavated earth being used to landscape the garden and drive. For a modern construction, it took its position very naturally in its surroundings.

Much of my time was spent drawing the interior. The windows were large for a house in Crete, so the landscape and light profoundly affected pretty much every room.

There was also a small olive grove at the bottom of the garden, which was of great interest too.
